Follow us to Everest!

Looking towards the top of Everest from Kala Pattar

It's Everest season 2018, and all the climbing teams are starting to make their way to Kathmandu before heading off to Lukla to start the most exciting journey of their lives. Some are even already there, and have started their trek towards Base Camp, while the ice doctors are high up in the Khumbu icefall setting up the safest route through.

We thought it might be great just to have a look at what it feels like to make this journey, at least as far as Base Camp, so every couple of days we will follow these intrepid climbers as they make their way higher and higher.

On the map below is the route they, and we, will be following. Flying from Kathmandu into Lukla, a tiny STOL airport (Short take off and landing, and believe me it is short!) perched high - 2840m, on the hillside (more about this in the days to come) and from there in the days to come, slowly but surely make their way through Namche Bazar, and all the way up through the Khumbu valley to Everest Base Camp. A journey of some eight or nine days depending on whether or not you stop for some acclimatisation on the way.

We hope you will join us on this incredible journey.
